Cruise Vacations Whats Included & Popular Destinations

inside carnival cruise

Upper/Lower rooms are small, but again this is a Carnival ship – you might not care if you’re spending all your time having fun. And the best thing about them is their low cost – you can get a really cheap cruise in one of these rooms – less than $350 per person for a week in the Caribbean. An Interior stateroom on a cruise ship is one that is normally located on the inside of a ship away from the sides and does not have any windows.

We've built a lot of ships over the years, but for a truly unique experience at sea, you've gotta see Carnival Vista. Carnival Vista has a whole new relationship to the sea, and you get to experience this as you explore the Caribbean with all-new views. I generally only spend time in my room for sleeping and getting ready, and more often can be found out enjoying the ship and port destinations.

What is an Interior Upper/Lower Room?

On the interior of one closet door was also a floor length mirror, which came in handy for checking my outfit before joining friends for dinner. The closet also stored extra bed pillows, which I didn't need, but it was nice to know it was an option. There was also a few empty shelves where I could store my handbag and shoes. Yet my room had a sizeable double-door closet with more than 20 hangers. My room attendant said I could ask for more if needed, but I didn't even use all the hangers provided upon check-in.

Before committing to a cruise, I break down the price per person per night, particularly if I need multiple cabins because I'm traveling with a group. I recommend you take advantage of Carnival's convenient 24-hour reservation hold, which displays the total cost, itinerary, and a countdown timer so you know when to purchase to secure the locked-in price. If space is important to you, and you think you’ve got the budget to spare, then a Balcony could be a better option than a Carnival cruise interior room. They’re the best choice if you are prone to feeling cramped because even just a small balcony in the fresh air can feel very open and relaxing.

So, I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious feeling of this interior cabin's bathroom. When I booked my cruise, I had the choice of two twin beds or a king-size bed. I paid a bit more as I booked my cruise only a month before sailing. But I was thankful that Carnival did not charge a solo supplement.

I was able to sample most included and added-fee restaurants — including Asian favorites at JiJi's and Bonsai Sushi, and the poolside Guy's Burger Joint and BlueIguana Cantina (more below on each of these). There was always a line of people ready to perform, and the Ocean Plaza area where it took place was teeming with crowds cheering them on. Audience members would often get up and dance to the music or sing along. Carnival Sunshine also acquired new food and beverage venues like the line's signature steakhouse, Fahrenheit 555; its signature Italian eatery, Cucina Del Capitano; and an express Bonsai Sushi. The line also added 182 cabins, bumping its capacity at double occupancy from 2,642 to 3,002 passengers, a 14% increase.

The only difference between our inside cabin stateroom and the extended balcony cabin was the door. Meanwhile, for passengers hoping for quiet time away from the kids, many Carnival ships also have an adults-only Serenity retreat area on their top decks with padded loungers, daybeds, hot tubs and often a bar. Carnival Panorama is smaller than today's mega-ships, but it packs a ton of fun into its 15 decks. Rooms are spacious; some come with exclusive perks like access to the Havana Pool area or unlimited use of the spa’s thermal suites. Kids will also love that there’s an onboard waterpark, kids club, and a Build-a-Bear Workshop at Sea. Originally debuted in 2021 as part of the Costa Cruises fleet (an Italy-based subsidiary of Carnival), the Firenze will set sail as a Carnival ship — with an Italian twist — in Spring 2024.

My husband and I stayed in a windowless interior cabin that had a king-size bed.

It didn't detract from our cruise, but those seeking a new shiny ship should look elsewhere. At nearly 103,000 tons, Sunshine Class ships are more than 40% smaller than Carnival's newest ships, such as Carnival Celebration. That said, Carnival Sunshine still offers a solid list of onboard diversions, from a multi-slide water park to a theater showing original musical productions. The 102,853-ton Carnival Sunshine is 12 decks high and carries 3,002 passengers at double occupancy in 1,501 cabins. But even better is that residency in these cabins gives exclusive access to the Studio Lounge, a hip hangout where cruise travelers can watch TV, hang out with a coffee or beer, and socialize with other solos. When you go for one of the largest, most luxurious rooms — and balcony — available on Carnival Paradise, you get a room designed to suit your desire for comfort, inside and out.

Grand Suite

The venue is a maze of slot machines, with a collection of poker tables, a craps table, two roulette tables and several blackjack tables. Throughout our cruise, the casino hosted organized poker tournaments, raffles and other ways to test Lady Luck. Energetic cruisers who can't veg in the sun all day can find limitless activities indoors to occupy their sea days.

Just don't expect a huge number of suites when sailing with Carnival. Norwegian's pint-size studios (100 square feet) are found on Norwegian Bliss, Breakaway, Getaway, Escape, Epic and Pride of America, and they make a big impression for numerous reasons. The staterooms feature funky, multicolor lighting effects and a round window that looks onto the corridor. Each offers a full-size bed and lots of storage you can hog all to yourself. However, I often consider more than the total cost before booking a cruise. I look at the ports of call, the space-to-guest ratio, the amenities and onboard activities, and the launch point.

Most vessels have standard North American-style, 110-volt outlets in rooms, as well as European-style, 220-volt outlets. Carnival adds an automatic service gratuity of $16 to $18 per person, per day to final bills, depending on the cabin category (children under the age of 2 are exempt). If you are unhappy with the service you receive, you can adjust this amount at the Guest Services desk before disembarking. Also, an 18% gratuity is added to bar bills and the cover charge of the Chef's Table. Note that it is important that the name on your reservation be exactly as it is stated on your passport or other official proof of nationality.

What you can expect, though, is to have nonstop fun thanks to a variety of diversions and an enthusiastic group of like-minded shipmates. A slightly more expensive "value" plan, at $17 per day, adds access to email and most websites. If you pay for a plan prior to sailing, you'll receive a discount. Carnival adds an automatic service gratuity of $14.50 to $16.50 per person, per day to final bills, depending on the cabin category.
